Joanna Powell Colbert is an artist, writer and teacher of Tarot and earth-centered spirituality. Amber Lotus Publishers calls her “one of the most accomplished and well-loved artists in the Goddess-spirit community.” Her work has appeared in many publications since the mid-1980s, including SageWoman and Circle Magazine.
The Gaian Tarot, nine years in the making, combines Joanna's love of symbolic, archetypal art with the mysteries of Mama Gaia, the natural world. The limited edition Majors-Only deck sold out before it was released in 2004. The deck is featured in US Games' Encyclopedia of Tarot, Volume 4. The Gaian Tarot will be published by Llewellyn Tarot Worldwide in September 2011. A Limited, Collector's Edition is now available, with almost 700 of 1000 copies already sold.
Joanna teaches online courses and workshops around the country on earth-centered spirituality, manifesting your dreams, connecting with the natural world, and the Tarot. She also hosts an engaging membership site, the Gaian Tarot Circle, which is a community for lovers of the Gaian Tarot. Joanna regularly shows her artwork and teaches workshops at Tarot conferences and Pagan events around the country.
The Gaian Tarot was created during the decade Joanna lived on a small island near Bellingham, Washington. Today she lives in the woods outside town with her husband, musician Craig Olson, in a house called "Rainbow Cottage." There daily encounters with the mysteries of the natural world continue to inspire and inform her work.
